Planning a destination wedding? Here are 3 things you should know.
I recently filmed a destination wedding at Darlington House in La Jolla, California for an adorable couple and I wanted to share 3 takeaways from the wedding weekend.
Trust your planner
If you are hiring a wedding planner for your event (highly recommended for a destination wedding), hire the best that a) your budget allows and b) that you trust the most. Planners have extensive knowledge about how to plan, coordinate, and handle destination events, and can guide you through the process, especially if you are unfamiliar with the city in which you are getting married. Many planners offer full-service planning (where they handle most, if not all, of wedding planning) and partial planning (where wedding planning duties are more evenly split). Depending on how involved you want to be with the process, consider a planner with extensive experience in the geography where you are getting married.
2. Infuse your personality into the event
You’ve picked this venue for a reason. Maybe it's a place where you two got engaged, met for a date, or enjoyed the view. Whatever the reason, make the most of the unique location and infuse your personality into the event, whether with special events, decor, or a guest experience. For example, the couple I filmed had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony honoring their elders the day before the wedding.
3. Take a deep breath and trust the professionals you’ve hired
You’ve planned for this event for what seems like forever. Your planner/you have talked to multiple vendors, coordinated timelines, and handled the logistics. During the weekend, trust the professionals you’ve hired to work cohesively to make your event memorable.
